Description By using the principles studied in BIBL201, the student will learn how to set out Biblical doctrines clearly. He will also be able to distinguish them from the false teachings commonly found in other religions. Since this course builds on DOCT205, it would be better to have studied that course first. The following topics will be covered: Realize the severity and devastating effect of the Fall and its consequences for man: Loss of fellowship with God, guilt and lack of merit before God. Explain the difference between the principle or power of sin and individual sins (sin as a state; sinful acts; 'big sins' versus 'little sins'). Define justification. Explain the place of the Law. Understand the history of expiatory sacrifice and be able to explain salvation based on Jesus' sacrifice. Understand and be able to teach that salvation is based solely on the merits of Jesus Christ. Understand that salvation comes by means of grace through faith, but is not based on the quality of our faith, so long as it is sincere. Understand the relationship between justification, sanctification, and glorification.
