Description Courses BIBL201-206 should have been studied before taking CHUR204. This course should enable the student to do the following: Be able to take into consideration the context (Biblical, historical, cultural and linguistic) of the original message. This will require a global idea of biblical history and especially an appreciation of both the continuity and discontinuity between the OT and NT. Identify the purpose of the author at the time of writing and be able to apply the message to today. Find the main idea of a given Biblical text. Be able to explain the meaning of a text in one's own words. Be able to test a particular teaching / doctrine in the light of Scripture and accept or reject it accordingly (develop discernment). Explain the role of Jesus Christ through the OT and NT, being able especially to explain the presence, prophecies and types of Christ in the OT. Have an appreciation of the existence, and value, of different translations. Be able to use the following Bible study tools: concordance, Bible dictionary, cross references, commentaries, and Bible atlas.
