Descripción Bachelor of Arts in Ministry (A.C.E./A.S.A.P.) Each program must include four elements: A major of not less than 33 semester hours in Biblical Studies. A basic core in the arts and sciences of not less than 36 hours, which must include fine arts, mathematics, and the social sciences. Nine hours in Ministry courses. Twenty-two hours in a selected minor. Christian Education Minor The student, upon completion of this minor, will have the basic skills and knowledge necessary for entry level work in a variety of ministries (educational missionary, minister of education, curriculum writer, Christian day school teacher, etc.), and the skills and information necessary to build upon these skills as he/she develops his/her ministry. This includes that the graduating student shall: Be able to write a lesson plan including operationally stated objectives, several ways of organizing material, classroom procedures, and techniques of evaluation. Have at his/her disposal a group of teaching techniques for use in classroom instruction. Have a knowledge of the materials available for use in Christian Education, and skill in evaluating and adapting them to a variety of teaching situations. Have a knowledge of the processes involved in human learning at a beginning professional level. Have a basic understanding of human development from pre-birth to death. Have a knowledge of, and basic skills in, administration for a variety of church related situations. Have demonstrated skills in Christian education. Be prepared to communicate the skills and information he/she has learned to the lay-workers in the church. Pastoral Ministries Minor: The specific goals of this program, beyond the goals of the major, are to train ministers and associate ministers for service in the church. This includes that the graduating student shall: Have basic knowledge of church music as an aid to leadership in worship. Have familiarity with programs, methods, and materials for ministry to youth. Be competent user of the computer as a tool to church work. Have a good grasp of the curriculum and other materials available for the educational work of the church. Be aware of and prepared to deal with complicated social issues in American society. Urban Ministries Minor The student, upon completion of this program, will be equipped for entry level work in urban ministries and have the skills and information to build on his/her studies here as he/she develops as an urban servant of Christ. This includes that the graduating student shall: Have knowledge of social structures and how they interact, as well as how these relate to the work of the church and its program. Have knowledge of the special problems in an urban environment and how they relate to church work. Have knowledge of the structures, practices, and purposes of the various social agencies and how these relate to the work of the church. Have knowledge of the interaction of social and psychological forces in the lives of people and how this relates to the work of the church. Have knowledge of the special cultural aspects of the city and how these relate to church work. Have knowledge of the structures, practice, and purposes of the politics of the city and how these relate to church work. Have knowledge and appreciation of the problems and opportunities offered by the social problems likely to be confronted in the city, and understand the role and function of the church in dealing with them, as well as how they affect the work of the church. Leadership Minor The specific purpose of this program is to equip the student to enter their workplace or local church with the tools to be an effective leader. This includes that the graduating student shall: Have knowledge of different types of leadership styles and how to move between them in situations. Be familiar with basic counseling concepts, methods and practices. Be a competent user of the computer as a tool to church work. Have knowledge of the social impact in the religious world and the impact of religion in the secular world. Be able to establish a religious deity within a setting outside of the religious world.
